Drop the Shoes and Tiptoe through the Dew
Tiptoeing through the cold, wet dew from tent to toilet are fond camping memories. I fondly remember the sense of accomplishment and simple pleasure of connecting to the wild outdoors…as if the tiptoe through the dew provides proof to mother nature of my ruggedness. No toilet? No matter, got a tree? Bush? Ditch? Been there, done that!
But then there’s combat by bug spray, followed by a smidge of envy for those who have the pieces-parts to so easily pee while standing. Not been there, not done that. ;-)
I like to be close to nature, but I don’t like to be touched by nature.
That’s a motto embraced after having lost one too many battles with the bugs. My joy of nesting outdoors and being touched by nature was demoted below my desire for bathrooms and beds. That is, until, I learned the benefits of Earthing.
For those who have not yet acquainted themselves with the sciencey side of this trendy phenomenon, Earthing is another way of saying Grounding. There are negative ions that, contrary to what the description implies, are actually good for us, and positive ions that are not. We humans with our love of tech gadgets that emit harmful positive ions, can become un-grounded when our body’s bioelectrical frequencies are bombarded with the not-so-good-for-us positive ions.
This means my motto (ya know, the one about not wanting to nest in nature?), well, positive ions are building up. So it turns out, I need to be touching nature. I need to be walking barefoot or hugging a tree to ground myself and to feel the bevy of earth’s bennies. By walking barefoot in the park, I absorb earth’s natural negative ions.
I’m not likely to go back to my tiptoeing days to the nearest tree to pee, but I will gladly enter bug central for the feel-good bennies of Mother Earth.
Bright Blessings,
Jewel Daisy
